Donate to the ACLU
Your support of the ACLU helps us turn these noble ideals into action that has changed the face of America — and continues to do so.
With the help of donors, the ACLU has been a leader in the fight to defend free speech, protect privacy, replace Jim Crow laws with civil rights, stop government-coerced religion, replace racial profiling and police abuse with community policing, end apartheid in the U.S. and work towards an America in which there is truly “Liberty and Justice for All.”
But the need grows greater every day. Besides establishing and safeguarding the right to Free Speech at the heart of our democracy here in the Nation’s Capital, the ACLU-NCA Legal Director has frequently been the lead Washington ACLU attorney on such “Patriot Act” cases as those involving Americans held secretly without charge, illegally screening demonstrators away from President Bush, seeking documents on prisoner treatment at Guantanamo Bay, and illegal FBI spying on political, religious and environmental groups. And the struggle goes on in court against President's Obama's unfortunate continuation of many of the Bush-era policies and practices. These are just samples of the work we undertake with your support.
ACLU-NCA donors include Americans from across the country who work, play, worship, visit, or live in the Nation's Capital and care about free speech and other civil liberties at the Seat of our Federal Government.
Please consider giving at the Amicus Club level ($125) or above. Donations of any size are welcome.
Recurring Donations
If you wish to make a contribution, but can't afford a large lump sum, become a Civil Liberties Charger!
It is often easier for people to give ten dollars a month, for example, rather than a lump sum gift of $100.00 -- and, that's also $20 more for civil liberties!
Civil Liberties Chargers are ACLU supporters who authorize the ACLU-NCA Foundation to charge their credit card a pre-determined amount each month. This program is designed to encourage civil liberties support in a way that is convenient and enduring.
To enroll, contact Beverly Miller at (202) 457-0800. Simply indicate your contribution amount -- unfortunately, we cannot accept a monthly charge of less than $10.00 due to the costs of managing transactions -- and we will automatically charge that amount to your credit card on the 12th of each month and send you an acknowledgement for your tax records in December. These donations are tax-deductible, supporting our litigation and public education programs. They are not membership dues, and you can cancel at any time.
Two Organizations In One
The ACLU-NCA is really two organizations, the American Civil Liberties Union of the Nation's Capital, the principal lobbying arm, and the tax-deductible ACLU-NCA Foundation, for the legal, public education and community outreach programs.
