With the countdown to the ACLU-NCA’s 50th Anniversary on November 8, 2011 underway, we will kick off a full year of celebration starting with our 2011 Bill of Rights Awards Dinner. This year, we take great pride in honoring Maryland State Senator and American University Law Professor, Jamin “Jamie” Raskin, with the 2011 Henry W. Edgerton Civil Liberties Award for his distinguished career as an active defender and supporter of civil liberties in his various roles.

The Alan and Adrienne Barth Service Award, given to recognize significant volunteer contributions to the ACLU, will be presented to Katherine Livingston, longtime ACLU activist and ACLU-NCA Legal Intake Volunteer.

Broadcast and Radio personalities, Kojo Nnamdi and Mark Plotkin, whose media works exemplify the dialogue necessary to ensure a free and open marketplace of ideas, will serve as guest presenters.

This Dinner serves as our only major fundraising event during the year and is a major celebration of old friends, new colleagues and the freedoms we hold dear. It will take place amidst the realization that there is no wholesale roll-back of the Bush Administration’s broad-based attack on civil liberties. With continued spying on citizens and restrictions on vital Bill of Rights freedoms transcending the bounds of law and our most treasured values in the name of national security, the work of the ACLU is as essential now as ever before. The ACLU has received wide praise for its dauntless defense of civil liberties during this time of struggle, even from frequent critics. OUR WORK DEPENDS ON YOU. PLEASE SUPPORT OUR DINNER!
